Open Water Swimming
Posted by: davidjobling on Wednesday, April 02, 2008 - 05:34 PM

Come on in, the water’s lovely……?

Open water swimming starting up again this year soon at Gosfield!

Open Water Swimming at Gosfield Lake Resort will start again for the 2008 season on Sunday 27th April 2008 from 0630 – 0845.
There will also be the Tuesday evening sessions running from 1830 – 2100 (over the first few weeks the Tuesday sessions are likely to finish earlier until the nights get lighter).

The sessions are attended by swimmers from a number of other running and triathlon clubs in the area. This provides an excellent opportunity for triathletes and swimmers to practice their open water swimming.

The lake is an ideal venue for novices as you can put your feet down in the majority of places as the water is not too deep. Please visit the Gosfield Lake Resort website for location details etc www.gosfieldlake.co.uk

If you need any further information please do not hesitate to have a word with Wendy or myself (or even drop us an email using the WRC website link) or speak to some of the survivors of previous sessions there – such as Alan, Stuart, Russell, Captain (Ex) Keith, David Andrews or Martyn.

Cost last year was 4 quid per session, I’m not aware of any change as yet.

We look forward to seeing you at some of the open water swim sessions this year.

Jobbers.

What's Your Time?
Posted by: byfordm on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 - 06:47 PM
TrainandNutrition

Found an interesting website which for those of you that wish to can view your predicted finish time based on inputting factual information around a finish time and personal data.

I had some fun based on finishing times at Stebbing and can predict that The Whippett would run a marathon in 2.44.16!!!

In Benidorm the following times would be recorded!

Alan 1.22.37
Rachel 1.40.22
Deb 1.47.39
Dave Smith 1.34.36
Phil 1.31.09

It does not factor in high alcohol consumption the night before!

The website can be found here

IMPORTANT - Change of Plan for Thursday
Posted by: Lorraine on Tuesday, August 21, 2007 - 05:58 PM
TrainandNutrition

In view of the weather forecast for the rest of the week (could be wet or overcast), can everybody running on Thursday evening please meet at Bramston as normal and not go direct to Wickham Bishops. And it's probably a good idea to bring your hi-visibility bibs as well!

We will take the decision where to run on the night.

See you all there,
Lorraine

Official club nights are in bold text.

Monday - 13th August - The Sportsman’s Arms, Nounsley, 7:30p.m.
The next to last pub run for this summer! If you would like to eat at the pub, please order your food before the start of the run to make life easier for everybody.

Tuesday - 14th August - Bramston - 7:30p.m.
A steady 5 mile run on a route chosen by CLB, with plenty of turn backs for slower runners.

Wednesday – 15th August – Swim at Bramston – 7:00p.m.

Thursday – 16th August – 30/30 Session.
Everybody enjoyed it last time we did it, so here we go again! Meet at Bramston 7:30 for a 7:45 departure and warm-up along the River Walk towards Chipping Hill. Session will be 30 seconds fast, followed by 30 seconds recovery, 4 reps per set and we’ll be doing 5 sets (2 minute recovery between sets). Please remember that these sessions are appropriate for runners of all abilities and there will be 2 groups this evening.

Saturday – 18th August
Cycling - Morrisons - 9:00a.m. A nice scenic cycle through the Essex countryside, with a break for tea, coffee, cake, beans on toast - whatever takes your fancy! Between 30 and 40 miles based on a Witham start. For those wanting an easier, shorter ride, there may be a group setting out at 10:00 – see either Yvonne or Ann for more information.

Sunday – 19th August
There’s the Sandwich Festival Fun Runs (5K and 10K) and Half Marathon if you fancy a multi-terrain run in Kent but that’s all I could find on the Runners World Event search!
Otherwise there will be a group run from Morrisons at 9:00a.m. with coffee in the cafe afterwards. Mileage between 8 and 12 miles, maybe out towards Terling / Fairstead.

Monday – 20th August - The Green Dragon, Great Leighs - 7:30p.m.
Please note that this is the last of this year’s summer pub runs.

For information only:
If you want a gentle warm-up for the Tuesday run (or maybe just a swim) the Bramston pool is very quiet on Tuesday from 6:35 – it’s also laned off.

Track Training and Races
Posted by: simon on Friday, June 22, 2007 - 03:16 PM
TrainandNutrition

During the Winter months there was an Alliance between Witham and Braintree Athletics club for Braintree runners to compete for Witham at cross country and during the Summer months Witham runners can compete on the track for Braintree for speed development.

This arrangement is for seniors and juniors and there is no conflict of loyalty as the events are different so runners can compete at both.

The remaining meetings are as follows:
MENS LEAGUE
July 14th at Luton and August 4th at Walthamstow
WOMENS LEAGUE
July 7th at Erith and Sept 1st at Gloucester park.

The meetings are fun and all abilities take part so why not give it a try.
As part of the arrangement runners are welcome to come to Braintree on Tuesdays 7 till 8 for some training which will be based on individual needs.

It is primarily speed based but sessions can be adjusted based on your own requirements.

If interested on any of the above please contact me on 01376 583523 or 07905 178159 so I know numbers and the session you require.

There is a £2 fee for using the track.

Simon Mennell
