ROAD RELAYS - SATURDAY 1 MARCH Posted by: byfordm on Thursday, February 21, 2008 - 09:55 PM Races
| Captains Brigid and Alan tell me that we have 3 Ladies and 3 Mens teams in the County Road Relays on Saturday week at Melbourne Stadium, Chelmsford which is really fantastic.
The start is 2 pm so if you don't know the way we will be meeting at Bramston at 12.45.
It should be a great day out. Supporters are very welcome as it is a very spectator friendly event with close to 80 teams lined up to run from across the County around the 3.5 mile circuit.
See you there.

Joe Cox Half Marathon - Easter Sunday Posted by: admin on Sunday, February 10, 2008 - 09:37 PM Races
| email received from Richard Nash of Stowmarket Striders:
"The Stowmarket Striders Running Club are proud to present the Joe Cox Half Marathon
"11am on Easter Sunday - 23rd March 2008
Finborough School, Gt Finborough
"Replacing the clubs’ traditional Joe Cox 10m, this Half Marathon race is an exciting new event for the club and for the region. The race starts and finishes at Finborough School on the outskirts of Stowmarket and in the village of Great Finborough. The course is a half marathon road run taking in some of mid Suffolk’s most rural scenery. Proceeds from this race go to Multiple Sclerosis.
"The race is the 2nd event of 7 in the England Athletics Eastern Region Road Running Grand Prix series (pdf).
"This is an ideal race whether running in the Grand Prix series, training for London or running an exciting new half marathon race. There is also a Junior Race starting at 10:15am, entries on the day.
"More details about this race [including entry form] can be found on the Stowmarket Striders Joe Cox Half webpage.
"Please mention this race to your club and encourage your runners to attend."

Essex Road Relays Posted by: Brigid on Thursday, February 07, 2008 - 10:29 PM Races
| The Essex road relays, hosted by Chelmsford AC, are on Saturday, 1st March starting at 2pm. The fast, flat course is approx 3.5 miles per lap - teams comprise of 3 women or 4 men. If you would like to run, or want further details, please see Alan or Brigid at the club on Monday night.
The closing date for entries is Thursday, 14th February so Monday will be your last chance to enter. 3.5 miles is achievable by every runner at the club so come along and put your name down.
Please note that as this is a county championship race, every club who enters has to provide a marshall. Are there any volunteers who can spare 3 - 4 hours on a Saturday afternoon?

XC Hylands Park Sunday 10th February Posted by: Brigid on Tuesday, February 05, 2008 - 08:01 PM Races
| As Martyn mentioned on Monday evening, the next 53-12 fixture is this coming Sunday at Hylands Park, Chelmsford, hosted by Springfield Striders.
The junior race starts at 10.15am followed by the senior race at 11.00am. After being accused of 'going soft' last year, the ditches are back and a few more have been added for good measure. The course involves a 20 metre long concrete bridge, crossed twice, but spikes or studs are still the recommended footwear. Please park sensibly and car share if possible. The convoy will be leaving Bramston Sports Centre at 9.30am.
The Writtle Social Club hall is open from 10am and will be manned at all times so bags can be safely left there if required. Please do not park at the hall; it is only a short walk through the subway to the hall afterwards. Refreshments and results will be available there after the race.
This is the penultimate fixture of the series and another good result here will ensure we stay in the Premier League. Don't be shy; every runner who takes part will contribute to the overall position of the team, especially if other clubs cannot field a full scoring squad.

Mablethorpe Marathon Posted by: Brigid on Monday, February 04, 2008 - 08:00 PM Races
| I have received information about this year's Mablethorpe marathon to be held on Sunday, 14th September. A handful of Witham runners took part in the inaugural marathon two years ago and enjoyed the fast, flat course around the Lincolnshire countryside. There is also a half marathon and 10k run on offer if the marathon distance seems too daunting.
For further info, please see me the club or logon to the Mablethorpe marathon website.
